Common Name: Glossy Crayfish snake Scientific Name: Regina rigida Identification: 15-30 in; shiny dark brown to black with vague dark brown to black bands on sides; belly light with two rows of black spots; scales keeled. Habits: Crayfish snakes are chiefly nocturnal, and inhabit swamps and bayous. They spend the day hidden in crayfish burrows and damp leaf litter near shore. Distribution: Throughout the state except for dry upland portions. Comments: The Glossy crayfish snake is a non-venomous specie.
